The Morgan Hill Times recently reported on the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority supporting a Pacheco Path route for the new high speed train route!
All of this is part of the California High Speed Rail Authority working out a plan for a high speed train to link up the the states major city centers. This rail system would connect Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Riverside with the Central Valley.
This Pacheco Path is the preferred route and the current preference after getting past environmental and other approvals. The next big step will be to get the $9.9 billion needed approved in the upcoming November elections.
If the ballot measure wins, it will still be a while until we can take advantage of the 2.5 hour ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The first stages of construction would not even begin till 2010.
